Briggs Equipment welcomes ten Stars of the Future to their Apprenticeship Programme

Since 2015, Cannock based Briggs Equipment have taken on a new group of apprentices into their recently established programme each year. The 2018 intake saw an additional ten apprentices join the 600 plus strong engineering team.

Over the past three years Briggs has invested over £1M in the development and roll out of its apprenticeship scheme, and this is reflected both in Briggs receiving the Talent Match Mark Youth Friendly Silver Award from Youth Employment UK, and in the feedback provided by the apprentices already on it.

Reece Worrall, who has just joined the scheme as part of the 2018 intake explained, “My first impression of Briggs has been brilliant. It’s not like any other company that I have been to, you are treated really well and looked after from the off. Everyone has made me feel really welcome and like part of a family. It’s been great meeting people who are all on the same journey as you, we’ve all got four years ahead of us together and I am looking forward to seeing how everybody develops to be the best that they can be.”

Applications for the 2019 intake are now open and the scheme incorporates on the job practical training and mentoring along with classroom-based learning at Stafford College. The four-year apprenticeship in Plant and Construction is delivered through the Construction Industry Training Board scheme.

Briggs is looking for young people who are keen to learn, have the drive to excel and are committed to operating as part of a successful team to deliver first class customer service. Working with mechanical, electrical and hydraulic handling equipment, the successful applicants will gain experience and broad-based skills in the field with blue chip companies around the UK.

There are another 12 places in a number locations across the UK including Llanelli, Felixstowe, Derby, Cannock, Maidenhead, Essex, Kent, Runcorn, Glasgow, East Kilbride and Peterhead.

Gary Grundy, Briggs’ National Workshop Manager said. “This is a very exciting time for Briggs equipment, having successfully recruited another 10 stars of the future this year, we have already begun the process of recruiting for 2019 with 12 apprentice placements planned for September next year. We will have in excess of 40 Apprentices on programme this time next year which clearly shows the commitment from Briggs Equipment to invest heavily into our Apprentice programme. It’s encouraging to see the full support myself and the Academy team get from the Board and the rest of the business to take this programme from strength to strength year on year.”
