Briggs Equipment help Bradfords build their carbon strategy
Building supplies specialists Bradfords have demonstrated their commitment to reducing environmental impact by investing in a multi-site implementation of new electric forklifts. These new Hyster trucks will replace an existing diesel fleet and will be delivered as part of a five-phase plan. The initial phase has been completed, with 12 machines now operational and a further 28 due for delivery throughout 2022.
As a long-term Briggs customer, the two companies have worked closely together to evaluate and understand the requirements of each site. This collaborative approach has ensured a smooth transition from diesel to electric in phase one and will continue throughout the delivery stages and beyond. Briggs has facilitated the installation of charging provisions at each site and the delivery of familiarisation and training support.
The environmental benefits of this investment extend beyond the significant reduction in CO2, as the new trucks also reduce noise pollution, especially important for sites in residential areas, and deliver increased control and manoeuvrability for operators.

All the trucks delivered are equipped with industry leading technology, which means the new trucks can keep pace with their diesel and LPG counterparts even in high-intensity environments.
“There will also be significant cost savings for Bradfords as a result of going green, with operational costs significantly reduced. Pleasingly, we have already received some excellent feedback from operators on-site regarding the performance, comfort and reduced noise levels of the new trucks.

Giles Bradford, head of sustainability for Bradfords, welcomes the transition: “Emissions from our forklift fleet account for 15% of our scope 1 carbon, so this initiative helps us to make significant progress to decarbonise the business.
“Whilst that was a driver for the electrification programme, crucial to any change was that the new vehicles were as fit for purpose as the original diesel versions. Reports so far are that there are additional benefits beyond the zero emissions which will add further value to the business.”
