Briggs Apprentice, Blair Condie has helped refurbish one of our short-term hire Hyster forklifts and transform it into a fund-raising machine.

The opportunity arose because Briggs Scotland had decided to refurbish an existing hire truck to aid Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, who rely on donations to fund life-changing equipment, support services and research at Scotland’s largest children’s hospital. The forklift identified to support this cause required an extensive overhaul though before it could be made ready for hire and Blair was very keen to get involved.

Blair is based on a customer site near Fife, in the fourth year of his apprenticeship and is always on the lookout for a new challenge. Under the supervision of his mentor Kenny Ritchie, Blair set about assessing the truck for the needed repairs, the parts were listed, and a full report of the forklift truck’s current condition created.

Blair got to work refurbishing the truck. Once the repairs were completed the machine came back to Cumbernauld depot for a fresh coat of paint in the Charity’s colours and a set of stickers with the Charity’s logo.

Thanks to Blair and the team’s hard work, the truck is now out on hire and is generating much needed and valuable revenue. 20% of the annual hire revenue of the truck goes directly to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity

Emma Desborough, Briggs Equipment’s Talent and Apprentice Advisor, commented: “Blair has gained some extremely valuable experience during this project, which he can take real pride in. His efforts, under the supervision of Kenny, will be helping to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.

“We can certainly take great pride in seeing a young man join Briggs and develop their skills and competency to the point where he could complete this project and help support such a great charity.

“Congratulations Blair and we look forward to seeing your journey with Briggs continue!”
