As part our of our Back-To-Basics series, we are taking a closer look into cleaning equipment. Having previously explored sweepers and AI cleaning machines, this week we’re looking at scrubber dryers.
What is a scrubber dryer?
Scrubber dryers are industrial floor cleaning machines which will clean, scrub and dry floors in a single pass. Manual walk-behind machines and larger ride-on models are both available. These machines are ideal for both daily cleaning and deep cleans.
How do scrubber dryers work?
First, the machine applies water, mixed with a cleaning agent, to the floor. Next, a rotating brush scrubs the floor before a squeegee vacuums up the waste water. Some models, including those within the Hako Scrubmaster range, feature parabolic (V-shaped) squeegee. This means its shape draws dirty water to its centre, where suction power is highest.
What types of scrubber dryers are available?
Pedestrian Scrubber Dryers
Pedestrian scrubber dryers, also known as walk behind scrubber dryers, are effective cleaning machines for smaller or more confined areas. They combine scrubbing and drying in one motion, making it easy to manoeuvre and operate.
Ride-on Scrubber Dryers
Ride-on scrubber dryers provide a powerful cleaning solution for larger areas. They combine scrubbing, vacuuming, and drying in one movement, making them efficient and simple to use.

What is a Hako Scrubmaster?

What industries are scrubber dryers used in?
Scrubber dryers are well suited to clean large industrial areas like warehouses, factories, hospitals, and shopping centres. This is because they’re ideal for cleaning hard surfaces such as tiles, concrete or vinyl floors.
Scrubber Dryers vs Manual Cleaning
Scrubber Dryers are much less labour intensive than mopping and achieve a more consistent and reliable clean. They are also a more time efficient cleaning solution, providing a way to cover more floor area in less time whilst still achieving excellent cleaning results.
Plus, manual cleaning and mopping involves you having to reapply the same water over the cleaning area. This results in the spread of germs and dirt, and can be a health concern. The floor can also remain wet after mopping unless manually dried. With a scrubber dryer, the machine releases the cleaning agent and scrubs the dirt from the floor surface, but quickly removes any excess liquid.
