Briggs Equipment-sponsored Peter Hickman and the RAF Reserves have completed their 2015 season in style – with victory at the Macau GP.

In only his second appearance at the event, Peter won by a six second margin over Martin Jessopp as veteran Michael Rutter took the final podium spot.

Peter used free practice and the first qualifying session to refresh his memory about the 3.8 mile public road circuitlayout. Then, starting from the front row of the grid, he slotted into second place behind Jessopp as the pair immediately pulled clear of the pursuing pack.

Jessopp had established a good lead, but Hickman set the fastest lap of the race on lap four and by lap six, half race distance, had made up the ground.  After following Jessopp for a couple of laps, Peter made a decisive move to the front. With a clear track in front of him and lapping more than a second quicker than Jessopp, Peter increased his lead to cross the finish line 6.267s ahead of his rival, providing the RAF Reserves team with a fairytale end to the season.

Peter Hickman said: “It feels absolutely fantastic. I’ve not been doing the road racing scene for very long, but my British Superbike championships have been pretty strong the last couple of years. It’s fantastic to be able to transfer between the two.

“I would like to thank the team, as all their hard work has paid off, Briggs Equipment UK for their support and the RAF Reserves team for putting such a fantastic bike under me. Also, my thanks to Lee Hardy, who has believed in me this past 18 months. I now move on to my new team for next season but it’s great that I have given Lee a win to end my time with him and the team.”

Commenting on the achievement, Briggs Equipment’s Strategic Development Director Gary Clements said: “We send our congratulations to Peter Hickman, Lee Hardy and the race team on closing out the 2015 season with an emphatic road circuit victory.

“Our thanks also to everyone who has supported, sponsored and worked with them during an action-packed 12 months.  We look forward to more exciting results like this in 2016.”
