Briggs announces Teenage Cancer Trust as 2016 charity partner

Briggs Equipment raises £93,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust

Briggs Equipment is pleased to announce its 2016 charity partner as Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer, aged 13 to 24. They develop specialist units within NHS hospitals and provide expert nursing and support staff who provide the best possible tailored, individual care and information whenever it’s needed. Their aim is to provide every young person with cancer to access to this specialist support, no matter where they live. However, for every young person Teenage Cancer Trust helps, there’s another they cannot currently reach – working towards an ambitious goal of reaching every young person with cancer in the UK by 2020. The trust needs to raise over £80 million to make this happen.

Briggs’ goal is to raise over £20,000 for the charity and throughout the year will be running a series of fun events to raise funds. How do the funds help support the charity?

£25 provides an hour of vital nursing care by a Teenage Cancer Trust clinical nurse specialist who understands what it’s like for a young person fighting cancer, to help them feel less frightened about what’s ahead. £100 enables one young person to come together with 29 others for a one day music therapy workshop at Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.

£250 pays for a young person to attend Teenage Cancer Trust’s annual ‘Find Your Sense of Tumour’ weekend conference allowing them to meet others with cancer, often for the first time.  £2,000 funds the activity budget for one of Teenage Cancer Trust’s Youth Support Coordinators, for one year. This will enable them to organise arts and crafts sessions, music lessons, discussion groups, pampering sessions, games and events on the unit as well as day trips outside of the unit.

Emily Cooper, Regional Fundraiser West Midlands and Oxfordshire said “Briggs’ fundraising efforts will enable us to support local young people and their families who are affected by cancer. We are really excited about our new partnership and we’re looking forward to working closely with the team to help Briggs raise vital  funds so young people with cancer don’t feel so alone”.
