Not necessarily. Some of our customers chose to have smooth tyres and this often depends on preference.

Most modern forklift tyres feature a wear indicator, also known as a J-line. Tyres should be replaced when they reach this in order to remain safe and compliant.

Not always. Forklift tyres can be solid or pneumatic:

  • Solid tyres remove the risk of punctures entirely which can be particularly helpful when balancing loads over difficult terrain. Solid tyres have a speed limit of 30km/h (18mph)
  • Pneumatic tyres are air filled with cords inside the tyre rubber which provide support and some protection from punctures. They absorb the shocks of rough terrain and can provide ideal tyre traction when properly inflated

The length of time forklift tyres last will vary greatly depending on how the forklift is used. For example, if the truck is being used for a few hours a day indoors, the tyres will last much longer than if they were exposed to heavy use on a rough outdoor terrain.
