This week we were lucky enough to be visited by team members from Guide Dogs UK, along with Carol and Terry, who brought with them their guide dog, Norma.
The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association use donations to provide guide dogs to those who have visual impairments and need extra assistance.
John Beaman, Workshop Engineer, began volunteering for the charity 23 years ago and has been regularly organising a collection of scrap metal, in exchange for a donation to the charity.
Over this time, John has raised over £30,000, allowing over 12 guide dogs to be provided for visually impaired individuals.
This year alone, John has raised £3,500 so far. As a result, we presented Guide Dogs with a cheque for £500 to support Johns fantastic fundraising efforts.
It can cost Guide Dogs up to £56,000 per dog in bills which can include food, vet bills and guide dog training.
With the organisation having almost 5,000 dogs, donations are extremely important to maintain the running costs and ensure that all dogs have the required support that they need.
Keep up the outstanding work, John!
